Council Approves 1st Street Rezoning

Posted on September 12th, 2017

The Vincennes City Council last night paved the way for development of a new downtown housing and retail development along 1st Street.

The grain silos owned by Robinson Grain Elevators on North 1st Street would be demolished for the new development. The deal is contingent on architect Andy Myszak securing federal tax credits from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to build the Riverview Lofts.

Plans call for a total of 42 apartment units with 26-hundred feet of commercial space on the 1st floor which would include a community room for tenants and a business area with available Internet access and a fitness facility.

Last week, The Knox County Area Plan Commission gave Myszak a favorable recommendation to rezone the property from light industrial to central business. The council followed suit last night approving the re-zoning on a 7-nothing vote.

Myszak says the application for the tax credits is due in November, and the money is expected to be awarded in February of 2018.
