Knox County Budget Hearings get under way this morning in Vincennes.
The Knox County Council will convene at the Knox County Courthouse to begin hearing from various department heads throughout the county, requesting money for their 2018 budgets. The end goal is the same as every year: find a way to balance the county’s budget. Council President Bob Lechner tells the Vincennes Sun Commercial that one obstacle that the county faces this year is tax caps that have been put in place by the Indiana General Assembly.
Those caps relate to property taxes and limit how much land owners can pay. In turn, that cap limits how much money the county will receive, having a big impact on the budget.
Budget hearings get under way at 8:00 a.m. today and will continue through Thursday of this week.
