Posted on November 8th, 2017

An Tuesday afternoon fire caused a local business to be evacuated.

Crews from the Vincennes City Fire Department responded to the Packaging Corporation of America around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon to the report of a fire near the bailer room. All employees inside the building were evacuated as a precaution.

Smoke was visibly coming from the outside of the building as crews arrived. Fire Chief Sonny Pinkstaff says fire personnel managed to contain and extinguish the fire in about 20 minutes. Power had to be cut to the building as crews battled the fire, but was restored just after 3:30 p.m.

Pinkstaff says there was no structural damage to the building and the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental.
