Volunteer Firefighter Killed at Accident Scene

A volunteer firefighter in Daviess County was killed Friday night after responding to an accident scene.

Indiana State Police say 27-year old Kendall Murphy of Montgomery was killed after being run over by another responding volunteer firefighter at an accident scene on Old US 50, just west of County Road 800 East.

Police say 26-year old Colby Blake of Cannelburg was the driver who struck two vehicles before striking Murphy and then crashing into a third vehicle at the scene.

Murphy suffered numerous injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police say Blake was found to be operating while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of 0.21%.

Blake has been preliminarily charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Death and Reckless Driving. He is being held in the Daviess Co. Security Center while formal charges are to be filed by the Daviess Co. Prsoecutor’s Office.

Indiana State Police crash reconstructionists continue to investigate the accident.
