Brevoort Levee District Reaches Out to Knox Co. Council

Posted on November 15th, 2017

Members of the Brevoort Levee District are seeking help from the Knox County Council with repairs to the Meskiman Ditch.

Terry Vieck appeared before the council Tuesday seeking 74-thousand, 800 dollars to pay Kerns Excavating for the remainder of the repairs.

According to the Vincennes Sun Commercial, the work was necessary due to the emergence of sand boils which if not removed could cause the ditch to eventually collapse.

The newspaper says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers required that the problem be fixed.

So far, the District has shelled out 35-thousand dollars for the repairs but is seeking the council’s assistance in paying the contractor.

The initial request from the county commissioners was to pay the bill from the cumulative capital bridge fund. However, the council tabled the matter for further review. There was some discussion about possibly taking the money from the County’s Economic Development Income Tax.
