Man Arrested on Multiple Charges of Deer Poaching in Martin Co.

A Shoals man has been arrested on multiple charges of deer poaching in Martin County.

On November 11th, Indiana Conservation Officer Corporal Eric Doane received an anonymous call about multiple whitetail deer that had been shot illegally. Corporal Doane investigated the matter and was able to determine 26 year old Brook Hawkins was responsible for shooting and killing three whitetail bucks over a period of 48 hours.

Hawkins used a motor vehicle with a spotlight to search for deer in the early hours of November 10th and 11th. Hawkins shot all three deer with a .204 Ruger rifle from inside a burgundy Ford truck driven by Brandon Clifton, 27, of Loogootee. Hawkins has been jailed and is charged with Hunting Deer by Illegal Method, Illegal Taking-Possession of Whitetail Deer, Use of Artificial light to Take Deer, Hunting Deer with the Aid of a Motor Vehicle and False Informing.

Clifton is being charged with Illegal Taking-Possession of Whitetail Deer, Use of Artificial Light to Take Deer, and Hunting Deer with the Aid of a Motor Vehicle.
