Vincennes University and the American Red Cross will host a post-Thanksgiving blood drive to help those in need.
Eligible donors of all blood types are encouraged to participate in the event, set to take place from Noon to 6:00 p.m. on both Tuesday, November 28th and Wednesday, November 29th. The drive will be held at VU’s Beckes Student Union located on Second Street.
No appointment is necessary for interested donors, but specific appointments can be scheduled online at red cross blood dot org.
According to the Red Cross, donated blood is perishable and must constantly be replenished to keep up with hospital patient needs. Red blood cells are the component most frequently transfused and must be used within 42 days of donation.
Potential donors should bring a driver’s license or two other forms of identification, as well as a list of current medications. Before any blood is collected, each person’s health history will be discussed and temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin will be measured.
